Abstract

The invention provides a system for converting media formats and a method thereof, which are applied to digital home. The system comprises a media server and a media player, wherein, the media server is connected with the media player through a digital home network; an independent transcoder program is arranged to be in charge of particular media format converting process; the media server controls transcoding preparation of the media format through configuration files, which means that a proper transcoder program is prepared according to the requirement of media transcoding with different formats. The invention overcomes the defects in the prior art, designs and realizes an expandable and configurable design proposal of external transcoding against media transcoding service of IGRS media server software. Furthermore, the invention also provides a method based on FIFO, which can support functions of transcoding, transmitting media data flow, and playing at the same time.
