Abstract

An apparatus for generating electricity using piezoelectric material comprises a first elongate member (210) and a second elongate member (220) that are joined together at a first and second points which are spaced apart from each other. The second elongate member (220) comprises a piezoelectric element (255) or has a piezoelectric element (255) mounted thereon. When pressure is applied to the first elongate member (210), the second elongate member (220) is stretched and the stretching force is applied to the piezoelectric element. This generates electricity. A similar arrangement with a third elongate member (230) may be provided on the other side of the second elongate member (220).
