Abstract

The invention discloses a method and device for establishing a multicast forwarding table entry in a bidirectional protocol independent multicast (PIM) network. In the method, a directly-connected device of a bidirectional PIM multicast source receives first protocol messages from the multicast source aiming at a multicast group G; a table entry (*,G) is established in accordance with the protocol messages; an outbound interface of the table entry is the RPF interface of the directly-connected device, and second protocol messages are sent from the RPF interface along an RP direction; the second protocol messages are used for indicating upstream equipment to establish a table entry (*,G), and an outbound interface of the table entry is the RPF interface of the upstream equipment; and the first protocol messages are sent before the bidirectional PIM multicast source sends multicast streams aiming at the multicast group G.
