Abstract

The invention provides a projector capable of automatically adjusting projection brightness and a method. The projector comprises a memory, an optical sensor, a controller, a power supply controller, an optical engine and a projection lens group. The memory is used for storing a preset illuminance interval, wherein the preset illumination intensity interval is from 750lux to 1500lux; the optical sensor is used for receiving light from a projection surface; a controller is used for obtaining light illuminance from the optical sensor, and determining whether the light illuminance is in the preset illuminance interval stored in the memory; the power supply controller is used for controlling a power supply to adjust the illuminance of a light source when the illuminance of light from the optical sensor is not within in the preset illuminance interval, so that the illuminance of the light from the optical sensor falls into the preset illuminance interval; the optical engine is used for providing an image, and the projection lens group is used for projecting the image provided by the optical engine to a projection surface via illumination of the light source.
