Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods for determining multiple touch events in a multi-touch sensor system. The system can have a touch sensor including a node defined by a plurality of electrodes, which can include first and second sets. The method may include: measuring self-capacitance of at least two electrodes; detecting touched electrodes; and measuring only a subset of the nodes (eg, less than all of the nodes and including at least the mutual capacitance of the nodes), resulting in the detection of two or more touched nodes. The self-capacitance measurement can be performed on each of the electrodes, and the touched electrodes can include electrodes from both the first and second sets. Alternatively, the self-capacitance measurement may only be performed on electrodes in the first set, and the touched electrodes may include electrodes from only the first set.

Description

[0001] Related Application Cross Reference [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 330,139, filed April 30, 2010, entitled "CAPACITIVE TOUCH SYSTEM USING BOTHS SELF AND MUTUAL CAPACITANCE," which provisional application The case is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to capacitive touch sensor systems, and more particularly, to an improved capacitance that uses both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements to unambiguously detect one or more objects in contact with or in proximity to a surface of a touch sensor. Sexual touch sensor system. Background technique [0004] Capacitive touch sensors are used as user interfaces for electronic devices such as computers, mobile phones, personal portable media players, calculators, telephones, cash registers, gasoline pumps, and the like. In some applications, opaque touch sensors provide soft key functionali...
