Embodiment Construction

[0034] Various embodiments are now described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of one or more embodiments. It may be evident, however, that such embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate describing one or more embodiments.

[0035] review

[0036] A technique for improving the generation of Daisy descriptors is provided. A modified Daisy descriptor is provided that reduces the number of smoothed (convoluted) orientation maps from three to one, thereby reducing the amount of memory required to generate the Daisy descriptor. Specifically, instead of generating multiple smoothed orientation maps from each orientation map, only one smo...

Abstract

Local feature descriptors for points in the image are generated at multiple levels of the image scale space. The image is progressively smoothed to obtain multiple scale spaces. A point may be identified as a point of interest within a first scale space from the plurality of scale spaces. A plurality of image derivatives are obtained for each of the plurality of scale spaces. A plurality of orientation maps are obtained (derived from the plurality of images) for each of the plurality of scale spaces. Each of the plurality of orientation maps is then smoothed (eg, convolved) to obtain a corresponding plurality of smoothed orientation maps. Accordingly, the local feature descriptor for the point may be generated by sparsely sampling a plurality of smoothed orientation maps corresponding to two or more scale spaces from the plurality of scale spaces.

Description

[0001] Claim of priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application asserts U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 326,087, filed April 20, 2010, entitled "Extracting Daisy Descriptor in Scale-Space," and Priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 412,759, entitled "Fast Descriptor Extraction in Scale-Space," both assigned to the present assignee, is hereby expressly incorporated by reference into this article. technical field [0003] One feature relates to computer vision, and more particularly, to methods and techniques for improving discrimination and retrieval performance, processing and / or compression of images. Background technique [0004] Various applications could benefit from having a machine or processor capable of recognizing objects in a visual representation (eg, an image or picture). The field of computer vision seeks to provide techniques and / or algorithms that permit recognition of objects or features in images, where an object or feature ma...
