Embodiment Construction

[0018] Apparatuses and methods for dispensing a therapeutic gas onto the nasal mucosa of a patient will be described herein. The device typically comprises a combination of a measuring chamber, a pressure regulator and a timing mechanism controlling a valve connected to the pressure regulator. More specifically, the apparatus is generally configured to include: a compressed gas tank, a first valve, a second valve, a first pressure regulator, a second pressure regulator, a measuring chamber having a certain amount of pressure at the first pressure A therapeutic gas at a predetermined pressure set by the regulator, and a timing mechanism coupled to the first valve and the second valve. When implemented as a handheld dispenser, the device described herein can reliably deliver a constant dose of gas despite the unknown state and pressure of the therapeutic gas. Another advantage of the device described here is that it can be manufactured from cheap mechanical elements and can be ...

Abstract

Described here are devices for intranasally delivering therapeutic gases to a patient. The devices may include a measurement chamber, a combination of pressure regulators and a sequencing mechanism that controls valves associated with the pressure regulators. When implemented in a hand-held dispenser, the hand-held dispenser may reliably deliver consistent doses of gas regardless of the unknown state and pressure of the therapeutic gas in the measurement chamber.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application Serial No. 61 / 350,417, filed June 1, 2010, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] Described herein is an apparatus for dispensing a therapeutic gas to the nasal mucosa of a patient. More specifically, the dispensing device includes one or more components for regulating the flow and pressure of gas from a hand-held dispenser for safe, controlled delivery of compressed therapeutic gas within the nasal cavity. Also disclosed is a method of delivering therapeutic gas to the nasal cavity of a patient. Background technique [0004] A typical compressed gas pressure regulator includes a spring-loaded diaphragm mechanism that regulates the opening and closing of the vent hole. The mechanism can be configured to manually provide a constant delivery pressure at any value within a certain preset range. ...
