[0004] 1. Hydrophobically modified cationic polysaccharides

[0005] The personal care compositions of the present invention comprise hydrophobically modified cationic polysaccharides modified with hydrophobic substituents and cationic substituents. Hydrophobically modified cationic polysaccharides are present at about 0.1% by weight to about 3% by weight, or about 0.25% by weight to about 2.5% by weight, or about 0.5% by weight to about 2.3% by weight, or about 1% by weight to about 2% by weight Content used. Non-limiting examples of suitable hydrophobically modified cationic polysaccharides include cellulose, starch and guar derivatives, especially derivatized hydroxyethyl cellulose ethers (such as those available under the trade name SoftCA TM those sold).

[0006] Non-limiting examples of hydrophobically modified quaternized hydroxyethyl cellulose ethers include those from Union Carbide mentioned in US 20070031362 A1 and may be referred to as SoftCAT by those skilled in...

Abstract

A personal care composition suitable for use as a non-aerosol shave composition comprising: a cationic polysaccharide, wherein said cationic polysaccharide is hydrophobically modified with a hydrophobic substituent and a cationic substituent; a lathering surfactant; a carrier comprising water; and optional adjunct ingredients such as lubricants.

Description

Background technique [0001] Over the past century, forms of shaving aids have changed and evolved. Shaving soaps and shaving brushes were used in the early twentieth century when soap was placed in a mug and rubbed with a brush to create a lather. After World War II, the aerosol process developed to deliver insecticides was applied again, and the first aerosol shaving foam was born. These shaving foams consist of dilute soap solutions and volatile hydrocarbons which, when mixed together, form a large, creamy lather in situ. Another common form currently in use is the post-foaming shave gel developed in the late seventies. Amine-based soaps combine with volatile hydrocarbons to form clear, stable emulsions when stored under pressure. Once dispensed and mechanically agitated, these gels transform into thick foams. Although aerosols are the most widely used form of shaving aid, they are almost exclusively soap based. Soaps can irritate the skin, especially in hard water, and...
