The invention discloses a remote downloading method for a POS (point-of-sale) machine. The method is used for transmitting and downloading data of a server to the POS machine. The method comprises the following steps of (1) firstly, compressing the downloaded data by the server, and generating compressed data; (2) dividing the compressed data into a plurality of data packets by the server, and transmitting the data packets to the POS machine by batch; (3) receiving the data packets from the server by the POS machine one by one; and (4) merging the completely received data packets by the POS machine and then decompressing into downloaded data. The downloaded data are compressed and then transmitted in a compression manner; and the downloaded data are divided into the plurality of data packets, and downloaded and transmitted for a plurality of times, so that the plurality of data packets can be transmitted at the same time according to the transmission speed of a communication network in the downloading and transmitting processes.
