Embodiment

[0087] The foregoing may be better understood by reference to the following examples, which are intended for purposes of illustration and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention.

[0088] A large number of biocide formulations were prepared and applied to process water samples from a paper mill. Their composition and efficiency are listed in Figure 4 and Table 1. Table 1 illustrates that a composition containing 12% sulfamic acid and 3% ammonium sulfate was able to achieve high product yields without the addition of NaOH. It also shows that the addition of NaOH to the bleach improves the feasibility of mixing stabilizers at different ratios.

Abstract

The invention discloses application of a composition of sulfamic acid or salts thereof and ammonium salt and/or amine or other biocides containing halogens in the papermaking field. The invention discloses a composition and an application method thereof. The composition comprises a halogen source, urea, an extra halogen stabilizing agent excluding urea and optional alkalis with concentrations enough to provide a pH value more than 10 for the composition, and does not comprise stable bromine compounds optionally. Besides, the invention discloses a method for reducing bioactivity in a process stream. The method comprises the step of providing the composition for the process stream. Through the optimized mixing ratio of the halogen and the stabilizing agent and mixing ratio of the ammonium salt and the sulfamic acid or sulfamate, the effect of the composition as a biocide is improved and adverse effects on other chemicals in the water flow are avoided.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] none. [0003] Statement Regarding Federally Sponsored Research or Development [0004] Not applicable. Background technique [0005] At least one invention relates to compositions and methods for reducing biological activity in process streams, such as aqueous process streams. Biological activity in process streams can be problematic for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to, sanitation issues, process equipment efficiency issues, and product quality issues. For example, in the papermaking process, high levels of bioactivity have detrimental effects on equipment operation. The problems associated with the manufacture of certain types of paper such as tissue / recycled paper products are more pronounced because high fungal levels present the dilemma of providing sufficient biocide stability so that it is not easily consumed (good persistence). The conflict between biocidal regimens and providing sufficient...
