The method mainly comprise the following steps of a, acquiring position information of the current position, comparing the position information with an electronic map, judging whether a traffic intersection exists in front of the current position or not, if so, shooting photos of the traffic intersection, and otherwise, ending; b, comparing and judging the shot photos, judging the traffic light status of the traffic intersection and prompting the traffic light status; and c, judging whether a user passes the traffic intersection or not, if so, stopping shooting the photos of the traffic intersection. Compared with the prior art, the invention provides the method and the system for prompting the traffic light status information by combining the GPS.
