Embodiment Construction

[0046] This instruction sheet relates to a Patient Worn Hub (PWH) device for monitoring patient parameters. The PWH is a self-contained patient monitoring device designed to be left with the patient during care. The PWH is assigned to each patient and will remain on that patient throughout the care across multiple departments, thus eliminating the need for re-wiring the patient. The PWH is designed in a compact and lightweight manner, making it easy to carry.

[0047] In one embodiment, the PWH is capable of communicating with the bedside monitor of the patient monitoring system and provides continuous, uninterrupted patient monitoring. The PWH is capable of communicating with the monitors assigned to the patient monitoring system described in Applicant's co-pending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 13 / 300,462, filed November 18, 2011, entitled " ConfigurablePatientMonitoringSystem", which is incorporated herein by reference. In one embodiment, the PWH communicates with the ...

Abstract

A device for continuous, uninterrupted patient monitoring comprising a portable self-contained patient-worn hub (PWH). PWHs are compact, lightweight devices designed to stay with the patient. A parameter measuring device is connected to the PWH. The third party parameter measurement device is connected to the PWH using a connection component that translates the information provided by the third party device into a protocol embedded in the PWH. The PWH can communicate with the bedside monitor via wired cable or via wireless means. Measured values are shown on the external display and / or the optional integrated PWH touchscreen display. The PWH includes memory for storing patient data and trends. The PWH optionally includes a docking station for providing operational and battery charging power. A PWH is assigned to each patient and stays with that patient across multiple departments throughout the course of care, thus eliminating the need to rewire the patient.
