Embodiment Construction

[0019] An electronic device may include a surface that may respond to a user's touch to provide input to the device. In some cases, the touch surface of the device may also be used as a display. Sometimes, however, when a user touches a surface, oil or other particles can deposit on the surface, which can interfere with the user's ability to view the display. For example, as a result of various inputs, the display surface may contain a large number of smudges and fingerprints, which can make it more difficult to view the displayed content. For example, one or more treatments such as depositing an oleophobic material may be applied to the surface to prevent or at least reduce the deposition of oil or particles on the surface.

[0020] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of an electronic device on which an oleophobic surface treatment may be applied, according to an embodiment of the invention. The electronic device 100 may include a housing 102 , a bezel 104 and a window 106 . ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a liquid vaporization process for depositing an oleophobic composition on the surface of an electronic device component by using a PVD process. A raw liquid material comprising an oleophobic component may be placed in a liquid supply system coupled to the vacuum chamber. The liquid supply system may be pressurized with an inert gas to prevent undesired chemical reactions between the oleophobic components and the air. The liquid containing the oleophobic component can be vaporized before reaching the vaporization unit, and the oleophobic component can be deposited on the component.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the application of an oleophobic coating to the surface of a material. In particular, it relates to the use of direct liquid application in physical vapor deposition ("PVD") chambers to apply coatings to materials. Background technique [0002] An electronic device may include a surface on which a user may provide input. For example, an electronic device may include a touch-sensitive surface that a user may touch to provide input to the device. The touch-sensitive surface may be incorporated as any suitable part of the device including, for example, a trackpad, keyboard, display, or combinations thereof. However, when a user touches the surface, oil and other particles from the user's fingers can deposit on the surface. This can adversely affect the appearance of the surface, especially when displaying information on the surface (for example, when the surface is a top layer outside the display). [0003] One way to ...
