Embodiment Construction

[0019] Fig. 1 illustrates the problem discovered by the inventors to be solved by the present invention. Shown is a prior art ambulatory ECG monitor / recorder 60 . As can be seen at the electrode lead wire connector 80, the monitor / recorder 60 includes several connector receptacles corresponding to the lead wire plugs. After use, these sockets must be sanitized in preparation for the next use. Such cleaning is difficult. Additionally, if the connector receptacle becomes worn to such an extent that electrical contact with the lead wire plug is intermittent, the entire monitor / recorder 60 must be replaced at significant expense and inconvenience.

[0020] figure 2 An ECG monitor assembly 100 of the present invention is illustrated. The assembly consists of four parts. Base ECG electrodes 140 with plug connectors 142 (see Figure 3b ) secures the ECG monitor assembly to the patient's skin and provides electrical contact points on the patient's body. The base ECG electrode i...

Abstract

A body-worn physiological sensor assembly (100) having a monitor / event recorder (120), a plurality of ECG electrodes (140, 180, 182) and an interconnect disposed between the recorder and the ECG electrodes (160). The interconnection device is preferably disposable, simplifying cleaning and decontamination of the assembly after use. Additionally, the disposable interconnect (160) incorporates substantial wear surfaces for the various electrical connections.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a body worn electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring assembly comprising ECG electrodes and an event recorder / monitor disposed on one of the electrodes. The invention also relates to an improved attachment system for a monitor assembly. Background technique [0002] In medical care, functional modules for determining a patient's physiological parameters are often attached to the patient's body. One example is a body-worn ECG monitor attached to the patient's skin by adhesive. The monitor acquires data from disposable ECG electrodes inserted into the monitor. The monitor is reusable, while the ECG electrodes are discarded for hygienic reasons. [0003] US Patent No. 6605046 describes an ambulatory ECG monitor that is fitted directly to the athlete's skin. The monitor can be inserted into the pouch, which is then held in place by an adhesive pad secured to the skin. The ECG electrodes are electrically connected to the moni...
