A portable terminal provides fingerprint-based shortcut keys for both security and one-touch convenience. The portable terminal includes: a fingerprint sensor for identifying a user's fingerprint; a memory for storing fingerprint data; and a controller for mapping and storing first fingerprint data input through the fingerprint sensor and functions of the portable terminal in the memory. . When the second fingerprint data is input through the fingerprint sensor, the first fingerprint data is compared with the second fingerprint data, and when the first fingerprint data is the same as the second fingerprint data, the function mapped to the first fingerprint data is executed.
