Abstract

A hybrid powertrain has an electrically variable transmission with a compound planetary gear set, which may be only two planetary gear sets. The two members of the first planetary gear set are connected for common rotation with the two members of the second planetary gear set. A first motor / generator is connected for common rotation with a member of the first planetary gear set and a member of the second planetary gear set. The input member is connected to another member of the first planetary gear set. A first meshing gear set includes a gear connected for common rotation with a gear of a second planetary gear set and a second gear driven by a second motor / generator.
