Abstract

The present invention provides an analog closed loop negative feedback system that adapts the feedback compensation during its operation to improve its dynamic performance. Using a purely analog control loop with digital assistance provides the speed and simplicity of an analog control loop with the flexibility of digital control. Adapting the compensation allows the system to accurately predict and adjust at all DC operating points: (1) the converter's stability margin against closed-loop oscillations, and (2) for disturbances in the input voltage and / or output current frequency domain and time domain response. The operational transconductance amplifier OTA and the digitally controlled digital-to-analog converter IDAC are used to dynamically change the operating parameters of the analog closed loop of the negative feedback system. The negative feedback system may be a switched mode power supply SMPS.
