Embodiment Construction

[0040] Although the beamforming techniques described herein for processing and enabling wireless data transmissions are described as being used in a communication system using one of the IEEE Standard 802.11 communication standards (e.g., IEEE802.11n), these techniques It may be used in various other types of wireless communication systems and is not limited to those wireless communication systems conforming to one or more of the IEEE Std 802.11 standards. For example, these techniques can be used in a communication system based on the IEEE802.16e, 802.16j, or 802.16m standard (referred to as "WiMAX"), a mobile phone communication system, and the like.

Abstract

In a method for beamforming in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system, a data unit is received from a communication device via a MIMO communication channel and it is determined whether the data unit satisfies one or more selection criteria. Further, when it is determined that the data unit satisfies the one or more selection criteria, the data unit is selected for use in generating a steering matrix for transmitting the data unit to the communication device.
