Embodiment Construction

[0031] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. The same reference numbers in different drawings may indicate the same or similar elements. Moreover, the following detailed description is exemplary and explanatory only and is not restrictive of the invention as recited in the claims.

[0032] Embodiments described herein relate to devices, methods, and systems for controlling power to a headset. For example, a predetermined proximity range of the headset may be monitored for detectable objects. The presence of a head mounted device detectable object within a predetermined proximity may be determined based on a characteristic property of the detectable object. Power consumption of the head mounted device and associated devices and systems may be controlled based on the detected proximity of the detectable object.

[0033] According to embodiments described herein, a headset proximity detector may be implemented using a long-wave infrared (IR) p...

Abstract

A headset device includes a component to monitor a predetermined proximity of the headset device. The predetermined proximity includes an area where a user of the headset is positioned during operation of the headset. The headset device includes a processor to execute instructions to monitor the predetermined proximity of the headset. The processor can also determine whether a detectable object is within the predetermined proximity of the headset based on a characteristic property of the detectable object. The characteristic property of the detectable object is one of a black body emitting property or a conducting property. Additionally, the processor is to place the headset into an active state when it is determined that the detectable object is within the predetermined proximity, and place the headset into a standby state when it is determined that the detectable object is not within the predetermined proximity.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to identifying objects associated with an earpiece device, and more particularly to detecting objects located in the vicinity of one or more headphones. Background technique [0002] Active headsets typically include both analog and digital components. Analog components can handle the physical audio signal (for example, filtering, amplification, overvoltage protection, etc.) and digital components can be used for wireless communication (for example, (BT), WiFi) and other "smart logic" processing (ie, dedicated signal processing, audio effects management, power adjustments, etc.). Digital components can receive a power supply such as a drive voltage in order to operate. The rate at which digital components consume power is known to vary depending on the application and usage. In many cases, however, power considerations for the headset impose limits on power consumption and require the headset to be active as ...
