Abstract

A system for constructing residential or commercial structures and / or retrofitting existing structures provides a range of construction components designed to work with standard construction materials when the built structure is subjected to damaging wind forces such as those commonly associated with hurricanes and tornadoes enhance its integrity. The strength of the structure is thus increased beyond the strength of standard construction materials alone. The reinforcing components further cooperate with standard construction materials to provide secondary watertight performance such that the decorative cladding of the side panels and / or wall panels normally required to provide a primary seal against water ingress into the structure need only function as a decorative structure. The primary sealing capability of the wall panels and / or side panels may be compromised in response to a storm, but the structure is also maintained watertight by the secondary sealing system.
