Abstract

Systems and methods for low-loss wireless power transmission are described herein. In one aspect, a transmit coil for transmitting wireless power includes first and second helical coils. Each helical coil includes multiple turns. The center of the first helical coil to the outermost turn of the first helical coil defines a first cross-section, and the center of the second helical coil to the outermost turn of the second helical coil defines a second cross-section . The portion of the first helical coil along the first cross-section and the second helical coil along the second cross-section has a mutual inductance with respect to the receiving coil that is greater than the portion along the first and second helical coils 65% of the maximum mutual inductance of the second cross section. The second helical coil is wound opposite to the first helical coil.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to wireless power. More particularly, the present invention is directed to transmit coils for low loss wireless power transmission. Background technique [0002] An increasing number and variety of electronic devices are powered via rechargeable batteries. Such devices include mobile phones, portable music players, laptop computers, tablet computers, computer peripherals, communication devices (eg, Bluetooth devices), digital cameras, hearing aids, and the like. Although battery technology has improved, battery-powered electronic devices increasingly require and consume greater amounts of power. As such, these devices constantly need to be recharged. [0003] Rechargeable devices are typically charged via a wired connection through a cable or other similar connector that is physically connected to a power source. Cables and similar connectors can sometimes be inconvenient or cumbersome and have other disadvan...
