Embodiment Construction

[0015] figure 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating an EMG endotracheal tube 100 having conductive ink electrodes printed on the tube, according to one embodiment. figure 2 is shown according to one embodiment of the figure 1 A schematic diagram of a close-up view of a portion of the endotracheal tube 100 shown in . Endotracheal tube 100 includes solid wire 102 , fitting 104 , cuff inflation catheter 106 , plastic (eg, PVC) tubing 110 , conductive ink electrodes 112 , and main cuff 114 . Solid wire 102 is connected to conductive ink electrode 112 by interconnect structure 108 . Tube 110 carries gas to and from the lungs. Fitting 104 is configured to connect to a ventilator (not shown) for injecting air into and withdrawing air from the lungs. The cuff inflation conduit 106 is configured to be connected to a source of compressed air (not shown) to inflate the cuff 114 . The cuff inflation conduit 106 is connected to the lumen 122 in the wall 120 of the tube 110 ( image ...

Abstract

A clamp for securing a terminal end of a wire to a surface electrode formed on a cylindrical tube includes a first semi-cylindrical element. The second semi-cylindrical element is configured to be attached to the first semi-cylindrical element to form a tubular clamp structure suitable for clamping around the cylindrical tube. The tubular clamp structure includes an inner surface configured to securely hold a terminal end of the wire against a surface electrode formed on the cylindrical tube.

Description

Background technique [0001] The endotracheal tube includes electrodes designed to make contact with the patient's vocal cords to facilitate EMG monitoring of the vocal cords when connected to an electromyographic (EMG) monitoring device during surgery. The endotracheal tube provides an open airway for patient ventilation and, when connected to a suitable EMG monitor, helps monitor EMG activity of the intrinsic laryngeal musculature. An endotracheal tube provides continuous monitoring of the nerves responsible for the musculature of the larynx during surgery. [0002] In an endotracheal tube, the wires typically terminate at surface electrodes on the catheter. Terminating the wires at the surface electrodes of the endotracheal tube typically involves the use of flexible circuits and conductive epoxy. However, flex circuits are expensive, and the conductive epoxy can be dirty and cause short circuits. Contents of the invention [0003] One embodiment relates to a clamp for ...
