Abstract

Methods for beacon information provisioning, transmission and protocol enhancement include defining multi-level beacons based on attributes of beacon information fields / elements. In addition to main beacons, short beacons can be used in space-time block coding (STBC) mode, non-STBC mode, and multi-bandwidth mode. Short beacons can also be used for Fast Initial Link Setup (FILS) and for extending system coverage. Beacon transmissions may use an adaptive modulation and coding set / scheme (MCS).
