Problems solved by technology

Some conventional systems with this property are not ideal in terms of ease of assembly, disassembly, maintenance or operation
For example, some thermally responsive systems require considerable time and labor to disassemble the system and repair or replace damaged parts (e.g., cracked cartridge heaters)
Other thermally responsive systems are unnecessarily complex, with a plethora of parts, etc.
Still other thermally responsive systems have transducers (or other thermally responsive components) that are heated in a sub-optimal manner and are unduly affected by thermal interactions of adjacent transducers, or otherwise not as reliable or precise as required
Additionally, some existing system designs are not suitable for ambient air cooling

Abstract

The invention relates to an extrusion die comprising a thermally responsive lip adjustment assembly. The device comprises a plurality of elongated housings that are mounted in a side-by-side configuration. Within the housing each thermal carrier are arranged and expand when they are heated so as to provide an axial force that can bend a flexible lip of the nozzle to adjust the lip gap of the nozzle. Also, a method for using the nozzle and a method of disassembly of the thermally responsive lip adjustment assembly are provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to extrusion dies having a thermally responsive system for adjusting the outlet opening or lip gap. Background technique [0002] Extrusion dies with thermally responsive systems for locally adjusting the lip gap are known. Some conventional systems with this attribute are not ideal in terms of ease of assembly, disassembly, maintenance or operation. For example, some thermally responsive systems require considerable time and labor to disassemble the system and repair or replace damaged parts (eg, cracked cartridge heaters). Other thermally responsive systems are unnecessarily complex, have a plethora of parts, and the like. Still other thermally responsive systems have transducers (or other thermally responsive components) that are heated in a sub-optimal manner and are unduly affected by thermal interactions of adjacent transducers, Or otherwise not as reliable or precise as required. Furthermore, some exis...
