Abstract

A wearable wireless portable device "WWPD" comprising cellular / WAN communication circuitry for establishing a direct connection to a telecommunications network and for establishing an indirect connection to said telecommunications network via communication circuitry of a more feature-rich mobile device low-power short-range radios. The WWPD can be configured to deactivate its cellular / WAN communication circuitry (and other resources such as GPS) when it is in close proximity to the mobile device to communicate with more feature-rich mobile devices via low-power short-range communication techniques such as , smartphone) communicate and activate its cellular / WAN circuitry to provide cellular and / or network connectivity when it is not in close proximity to the mobile device.
