Abstract

The present invention provides system and method embodiments for supporting network communication with a group of UEs. The described embodiments include a two-stage group-based hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanism and acknowledgment (ACK) / negative ACK (NACK) feedback. An embodiment method comprising: receiving, at a UE within a virtual multipoint (ViMP) comprising the UE, a data packet for a target UE (TUE) broadcast from a base station (BS) to said ViMP node; decoding said data packet; and When the packet is successfully decoded, broadcast the packet to UEs within the ViMP node until a timer pre-established by the BS expires or an ACK message is received from the TUE or the ViMP node . In an embodiment, broadcast data received in the ViMP node is rebroadcasted when a negative acknowledgment (NACK) message is received from a TUE, beacon UE or any UE within the ViMP node.
