Abstract

A network device includes a mounting rail having at least one mounting location. A mounting location is defined by one or more equipment reference locators that define a mounting orientation relative to the mounting location. A device connector attached to a device printed circuit board (PCB) is positioned with a connection direction parallel to the mounting direction. At least one module is provided for mounting to one of the mounting locations. The module includes one or more module reference locators, each adapted to engage one of the equipment reference locators when the module is positioned for installation in the installation location. The module connectors attached to the module PCB are positioned to have a connection direction parallel to the mounting direction. The module connector and the device connector are positioned such that when the one or more module reference locators are each engaged with one of the one or more device reference locators and the module is advanced in the installation direction toward the installation position, the module Connectors and device connectors are connected as the module is installed at the installation location to connect the module to network equipment.
