Embodiment Construction

[0020] The following is a description of the examples.

[0021] figure 1 A schematic diagram of one embodiment of a system based on depth sensor 110 counts is shown. like figure 1 As shown in , a system 100 based on counting by a depth sensor 110 is provided. System 100 includes scene 105, which is the range of vision detectable by a sensor / camera. As shown in the scene, one or more persons may be located within one or more fields of view 112 , 117 of cameras or imaging devices, such as depth sensor 110 and visible spectrum camera(s) 115 . Visible spectrum camera 115 and depth sensor 110 may include associated fields of view 117, 112, respectively. Depth sensor 110 and / or camera may be associated with data storage 131 , which may be local, for example accessible on a public network or via wide area network 120 .

[0022] Depth sensor 110 collects depth data from one or more scenes. Depth data can be processed to remove background information and provide focus on objects ...

Abstract

A sensor system according to an embodiment of the present invention can process depth data and visible light data for more accurate detection. Depth data is helpful in situations where visible light images are susceptible to false positives. Visible light images (or videos) can similarly enhance conclusions drawn from depth data alone. Detection can be object-based or defined by the environment of the target object. Depending on the target object, the type of detection can vary to include motion and behavior. Applications of the sensor system include motion-guided interfaces, where a user can interact with one or more systems through gestures. The sensor system described can also be applied to counting systems, monitoring systems, voting systems, retail store analysis, etc.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is a continuation of US Application Serial No. 13 / 683,886, filed November 21, 2012. [0003] The entire teachings of the above applications are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0004] Many applications benefit from accurate counting of people within a scene. Some of these applications can be combined with heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems, video surveillance systems, retail systems, and other areas. For example, accurate counting of people can provide retailers with statistics to judge the effectiveness of their advertising, and other applications can use counts to detect tailgating at security checkpoints. Municipalities can also use precise scene population counts to determine the number of visitors at a particular facility. Counting people by using visible spectrum and thermal cameras can lead to imprecise counts. Contents of the invention [0005] Visible spectr...
