Embodiment Construction
[0010] The present invention relates to viscous clutch assemblies suitable for use as fan clutches in automotive applications and associated methods of use. In general, the clutch (or driver) may include a bypass bore (or passage) and a valve bore (or passage) each extending between the reservoir and the working chamber. A viscous (or shear) fluid may be introduced into the working chamber to create a viscous shear coupling to transmit torque between an input and an output, such as from an engine to a cooling fan. A return hole may provide a return path for the viscous fluid from the working chamber to the reservoir. The bypass hole may remain open and unobstructed during all operating conditions so that viscous fluid may pass continuously from the reservoir to the working chamber through the bypass hole to the clutch input and output at all times (or Exceeded) minimum threshold to maintain sticky bonding. The valve may be positioned to selectively cover and expose the valve...
