The method comprises the steps that a client sends video playback request messages which respectively correspond to multiple path identifications to a server based on a multi-channel video playback instruction input by a user; and after receiving a video playback response message which corresponds to each path identification and is generated by the server based on the video playback request message corresponding to each path identification, the client plays video data corresponding to all the path identifications synchronously by regarding the local current time of the client as a benchmark respectively based on time stamp information of video data carried in the video playback response message which corresponds to each path identification. By adoption of the technical scheme, the client plays the video data corresponding to all the paths synchronously based on the time stamp information of the video data corresponding to each path identification, so that synchronization of videos shown in multiple windows is kept during the multi-channel video playback process, and the system performance is improved efficiently.
