Abstract

Provided are an around view monitoring (AVM) system and method for vehicles. The AVM system for vehicles includes a work start judgment part, a path transformation part, and an AVM image processing part. The work start judgment part judges the condition of work starting of the AVM system according to the gearshift mode of the vehicles and speed mode of vehicles. The path transformation part transforms the transmission path of any image between the left image and the right image shot by a stereoscopic camera from an active safety system to the AVM system according to the control of the work start judgment part when the judging result of the work start judgment part is that the gearshift mode and speed mode of vehicles meet the condition of work starting of the AVM system. The AVM image processing part compounds images around the vehicles shot by a plurality of cameras and any image received from the active safety system by the path transformation part to form a surrounding image showing the condition around the vehicle. The system can simplify the AVM system of the vehicle and can reduce the cost of the whole system.
