[0016] Embodiments described herein relate generally to shroud assemblies and front end assemblies. In particular, the cover assembly includes an outer panel and a frame disposed on an inner surface of the outer panel. The frame has at least one profiled portion. The profiled portion includes openings to facilitate predetermined deformation of the outer panel when subjected to top-down loading. As used herein, top-down loads describe loads applied to the outer surface of the shell plate that originate from the space above the shell plate. The top down load may be directly above the outer panel, or may approach the outer panel at an angle, such as at a 50 degree angle relative to the ground.

Abstract

The present invention provides a cover assembly. The shroud assembly has an outer panel with an inner surface and a perimeter. The shroud assembly also includes a frame mounted to the inner surface of the outer panel. The frame includes an outline portion. The contoured portion is spaced from the inner surface of the outer panel and is adjacent to a forward portion of the outer panel periphery. The profiled portion includes openings disposed on the profiled portion to facilitate deformation of the outer panel when the outer panel is subjected to a top-down load.
