In one embodiment of the present inventions, an exhaust outlet in a vacuum processing chamber includes a nonsealing flow restrictor which can facilitate rapid opening and closing of the flow restrictor in some applications. Because the flow restrictor is a nonsealing flow restrictor, the conductance of the flow restrictor in the closed position may not be zero. However, the flow restrictor can restrict the flow of an exhaust gas from the chamber to permit the retention of sufficient processing gas in the chamber to deposit a film on the substrate or otherwise react with the substrate. After a film has been deposited, typically in a thin atomic layer, the exhaust flow restrictor may be opened such that the flow restrictor conductance is significantly increased to a second, higher flow rate to facilitate exhausting residue gas from the chamber. The nonsealing flow restrictor may be closed again to deposit a second layer, typically of a different material onto the substrate. The nonsealing flow restrictor may be rapidly opened and closed to deposit alternating layers of a variety of materials onto the substrate.

Methods, systems and devices are described for temporarily or permanently evacuating stagnating air from a diseased lung area, typically for the purpose of treating COPD. Evacuation is accomplished by displacing the stagnant CO₂-rich air with a readily diffusible gas using a transluminal indwelling catheter specially configured to remain anchored in the targeted area for long term treatment without supervision. Appropriate elevated positive gas pressure in the targeted area is then regulated via the catheter and a pneumatic control unit to force under positive pressure effusion of the diffusible gas out of the area into neighboring areas while inhibiting infusion of other gases thus effecting a gradual gas volume decrease and deflation of the targeted area.

The present invention is a hybrid ceramic matrix composite turbine engine component comprising an outer shell section(s) and an inner core section(s), wherein the outer shell section(s) and the inner core section(s) were bonded together using an MI process. The outer shell section(s) comprises a SiC/SiC material that has been manufactured using a process selected from the group consisting of a slurry cast MI process and a prepreg MI process. The inner core section(s) comprises a material selected from the group consisting an Si/SiC composite material and a monolithic ceramic material. The Si/SiC composite material may be manufactured using the Silcomp process. The present invention may be a high pressure turbine blade, a high pressure turbine vane, a low pressure turbine blade, or a low pressure turbine vane. The present invention is also a method of manufacturing a hybrid ceramic matrix composite turbine engine component.

A photochromic polyurethane laminate that is constructed to solve certain manufacturing difficulties involved in the production of plastic photochromic lenses is disclosed. The photochromic laminate includes at least two layers of a resinous material and a photochromic polyurethane layer that is interspersed between the two resinous layers and which contains photochromic compounds. The polyurethane layer is formed by curing a mixture of a solid thermoplastic polyurethane, at least one isocyanate prepolymer, at least one photochromic compound, and a stabilizing system.

An implantable lead for transmitting electrical signals between a proximal end and a distal end comprises an elongated lead body defining a longitudinally-extending lumen, and a plurality of individual electrical conductors contained in the lumen of the lead body and extending between the proximal and distal ends, the plurality of individual conductors sharing a common insulating coating. Each of the plurality of individual electrical conductors preferably comprises a braided, multifilar cable conductor. A turbine blade for a gas turbine engine, in which the turbine blade includes an airfoil portion with a root having a dovetail shape, and two platform halves that include a dovetail shaped opening within the platform halves to secure the blade root within the platform halves when fastened together. A machine and a process for producing lightweight thermoplastic composite products in a continuous manner is disclosed. An oven is provided for heating a dry unconsolidated fabric sheet of commingled fibers of thermoplastic and re-enforcing fibers or carbon fibers to a temperature sufficient to ensure melting and flow of the resin in the voids of the commingled fibers. The unconsolidated composite sheet is conveyed through the oven and then through a first pair of heated rollers at an outlet of the oven whereby to maintain the fabric sheet heated to prevent abrupt cooling at the surfaces while compressing it under pressure. A further pair of rollers at a further reduced temperature is provided whereby the heated sheet is gradually lowered in temperature and the pressure is maintained thereon during consolidation of the commingled fibers to ensure complete flow of the resin in the voids between the reinforcing fibers. The continuous composite consolidated sheet can then be processed to sheet form, or laminated in a sandwich, or profiled whereby to form a desired product.

A lightweight ballistic resistant rigid structural panel especially for use in aircraft interiors is disclosed. The rigid structural panel is made up of a core layer including a plurality of sheets of flexible, high-tensile strength fabric interleaved with a plurality of sheets of a thermal-fusible film adhesive, and a sheet of cushioning material adhered to the plurality of sheets of flexible, high-tensile strength fabric. A cooling apparatus and method of fabrication are provided for facilitating removal of heat from a heat generating electronic device. The cooling apparatus includes an integrated coolant inlet and outlet manifold having a plurality of inlet orifices for injecting coolant onto a surface to be cooled, and a plurality of outlet openings for exhausting coolant after impinging on the surface to be cooled. The inlet orifices and the outlet openings are interspersed in a common surface of the integrated manifold. A plurality of exit openings are also provided on at least one edge surface of the manifold. These exit openings are in fluid communication through the manifold with the outlet openings to facilitate exhausting of coolant through the outlet openings and minimize pressure drop through the manifold. At least one surface plane projection of the at least one edge surface intersects a surface plane projection of the common surface.

Disclosed herein is an aluminum alloy clad sheet for a heat exchanger including a core layer, a sacrificial layer formed on one surface of the core layer, and a filler layer including an Al—Si based alloy formed on the other surface of the core layer. The core layer includes a predetermined amount of Si, Cu, Mn, Ti, and Mg, the remainder including Al and inevitable impurities, and the sacrificial layer includes a predetermined amount of Si, Mn, and Zn, the remainder including Al and inevitable impurities. The core layer has a crystal grain size after the brazing heat treatment at 595° C. for 3 minutes of at least 50 μm and less than 300 μm. The filler layer and the sacrificial layer are defined for their thickness, and the number of intermetallic compounds in the core layer is also defined to a predetermined range. By such constitution, the aluminum alloy clad sheet has improved fatigue life and post-braze strength, high corrosion resistance, and excellent erosion resistance and brazeability.
