Abstract

A method and system for communicating high priority messages in a vehicular ad hoc network is provided. In the communication channel, time slots are defined, and N consecutive time slots constitute a cycle, wherein the mth time slot of each cycle is reserved for transmitting preemption messages. The method may include: selecting a subframe transmitted in the first q-slot with a lower priority than a high-priority message; transmitting in the first m-slot following the first q-slot a preemption message to be occupied to transmit a high priority message, the second q-slot following the first m-slot; and the high-priority message is transmitted in the second q-slot. By using the method and system, messages with higher priority can be delivered in time even under very congested conditions.
