Problems solved by technology

Although generating video from multiple angles can help gather additional details about a scene, multiple video recordings make it difficult for operators to observe in an efficient manner
In addition, in networked video surveillance systems, multiple video streams consume a lot of bandwidth and network resources, especially in wireless video surveillance systems

Embodiment Construction

[0015] For the purpose of facilitating an understanding of the principles of the embodiments described herein, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings and description in the ensuing written description. No limitation of the scope of the subject matter is thereby intended. The description also includes any changes and modifications to the illustrated embodiments, and includes other applications of the principles of the described embodiments that would normally occur to one of ordinary skill in the art to which this disclosure pertains.

[0016] As used herein, the term "scene" describes a single area that is monitored by a surveillance system using multiple cameras located at multiple locations to view the scene from different directions. Examples of scenes include, but are not limited to, rooms, foyers, plazas, access routes, streets, intersections, retail stores, parking facilities, and the like.

[0017] Herein, the term "sparse coding" refers to a method fo...

Abstract

A system for identifying objects and events of interest uses one or more cameras with image processing. The system includes multiple cameras configured to perform image processing of a scene from multiple angles in order to extract and transmit metadata corresponding to objects or people in the scene. The cameras transmit metadata to a processing station configured to temporally process the data stream in order to detect objects and events of interest in order to alert monitoring personnel of objects or events in the scene.

Description

[0001] priority statement [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 822051, entitled "SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OBJECT ANDEVENT IDENTIFICATION USING MULTIPLE CAMERAS," filed May 10, 2013, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of video surveillance, and more particularly to systems and methods for monitoring objects and events using multiple cameras arranged at different angles around a scene. Background technique [0004] Video surveillance systems are widely deployed for a variety of purposes including security and public safety. In a typical video surveillance system, one or more cameras are deployed at different locations to monitor activities. For example, video surveillance systems generate images of public spaces, transportation facilities, retail stores, industrial facilities and residential and other private property. S...
