Embodiment Construction

[0024] The successful projection of the properties of voltage and current signals from before to after the onset of a disturbance in an electrical network depends largely on an accurate assessment of the frequency of the signals. This is because the projected phase should be correctly represented with respect to the actual voltage and current signals after the disturbance. In the case of small disturbances, the accuracy of the frequency assessment for the entire period of interest is critical. The period of interest is the entire period of time for which failure-level results are expected. The period of interest therefore begins at the onset of the disturbance and proceeds until after the last moment when fault level results are expected. This can be 90 ms or more after the onset of interference. The disturbance itself typically includes transients, which may be steep, and which may or may not subsequently collapse to nothing in less than the period of interest.

Abstract

A device used in an interference extraction based interference assessment system includes a measurement unit and an interpolation unit. The device may comprise at least one delay unit for receiving an analog or digital signal from an electrical network; a first access point at a first part of the delay unit; a second access point at a second part of the delay unit and the measurement unit includes a first frequency derivation unit for processing a set of access point outputs from the first access point and providing a measure of frequency after interference; and a second frequency derivation unit for for processing a set of access point outputs from said second access point or delay output unit to provide a measure of frequency before said disturbance; and said interpolation unit receives measures of frequency after and before said disturbance, and A measure of frequency as a function of time over a period of interest is provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for use in a disturbance assessment system based on disturbance extraction from electrical networks. Background technique [0002] Interference assessment systems based on interference extraction are known. Interference assessment systems are used to assess disturbances in electrical networks. The disturbance assessment system can be used, for example, for fault level monitoring, impedance calculation and detection of operation of paralleled transformers. Known disturbance evaluation systems in the form of fault recorders record fault currents as they occur. These fault recorders are designed to record the actual fault current seen. This is not a fault level, and therefore a fault recorder is not a fault level monitor. Fault level monitors are designed to predict the worst-case currents that may flow. [0003] Fault level monitors are used to predict fault level currents in networks providing electrical supply to ...
