Abstract

The invention discloses a method for realizing position update and a mobility management unit. The method comprises the following steps that: a destination mobility management unit acquires circuit domain position information registered in an original system before movement of UE (User Equipment) in a context transmission process of the UE; and a destination MSC (Mobile Switched Center) initiates a position update request to an HSS (Home Subscriber Server) by using the acquired circuit domain position information registered in the original system before movement of the UE. Through the technical scheme provided by the invention, unnecessary signaling overhead is avoided; successful calling of the UE is ensured; and the congestion risk of the HSS is lowered.
