Abstract

A preconditioned electric vehicle is disclosed. A vehicle includes a cabin, a traction battery configured to receive wall power from a charging station, a coolant circuit, a heat pump, and a controller. The coolant circuit includes the battery, heater core, heat exchanger and valves. The heat pump is in fluid communication with the heat exchanger. The controller is configured to, in response to the request to heat the battery and cabin and the time to next planned use of the vehicle being less than a first threshold time, when wall power is available, actuate the valve to circulate coolant to the heater core instead battery, and when the ambient air temperature exceeds a threshold temperature, the heat pump is energized to supply heat to the coolant circuit through the heat exchanger. The present application also discloses a method for preconditioning a vehicle.
