Abstract

A grazing incidence interferometer includes first and second spaced diffractive optical elements with a substantially planar object disposed therebetween. The first diffractive optical element forms a clipped first diffractive order beam that is reflected from the opposite first and second surfaces of the object at a grazing incidence angle, while the zero diffractive order beam is not reflected. The second diffractive optical element combines the unreflected zero-diffractive order beam and the clipped reflected beam to form a collimated combined beam. The 1X bi-telecentric relay system relays the combined beams to the folding optics which form the first and second interference images on a diffuse screen located at the image plane. Digital images of the first interferometric image and the second interferometric image are acquired and processed to characterize thickness variations of the object.
