Embodiment Construction

[0043] In the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof, and which show by way of illustration and not of limitation specific preferred embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. It is to be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

[0044] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a Kraft black liquor recovery boiler system 10 having a sootblower system 2 with one or more sootblowers (also referred to herein as "sootblower elements"), however, with various Other boiler systems with soot blower systems and their auxiliaries also fall within the scope of the invention. Multiple sootblower effectiveness is disclosed and described in U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2006 / 0065291A1, published March 30, 2006, entitled "Method of Determining Individual Sootblower Effectiveness." Abstract

Detecting fouling of a heat exchanger of a boiler includes firing a jet of pressurized fluid from a nozzle of the sootblower element when the nozzle is adjacent the surface of the heat exchanger, and sensing The impact is generated and transferred back to the value of the reaction force of the sootblower element by the pressurized fluid jet. The method also includes determining when there is a substantial deposit on the surface of the heat exchanger indicating fouling based on the value indicative of the reaction force.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to fouling or ash deposits in recovery boilers, and more particularly to the detection of fouling ash deposits on heat exchangers of recovery boilers by means of sootblowers. Background technique [0002] In the papermaking process, chemical pulping produces black liquor as a by-product, which contains almost all the inorganic cooking chemicals as well as lignin and other organic substances that are separated from the wood during pulping in the digester. The black liquor is burned in a boiler. The two functions of the boiler are to recover the inorganic cooking chemicals used in the pulping process and to utilize the chemical energy in the organic part of the black liquor to generate steam used by the paper mill. The term boiler as used herein may include bottom supported boilers as described below or top supported boilers which burn fuel to foul heat transfer surfaces. [0003] For example, a Kraft boiler may ...
