A device for testing a liquid sample, the device comprising: (i) a container for the liquid sample; (ii) a cap for closing the container after the liquid sample has been provided in the container; (iii) a first fixed means for securing the lid to the container by a first securing means; a test cartridge for securing to the lid when the lid is on the container; (v) a second securing means for securing the test cassette to the lid by a second securing means; and (vi) a responsive recording paper operable in response to contact with the liquid sample, and the device is such that: (vii) the cover has an openable portion which, when opened, allows the liquid sample in the container to enter the test cartridge; (viii) When the test cartridge is secured to the lid, the test cartridge has an opener for opening the openable portion on the lid; and (ix) the response recording paper is inside the test cartridge and is contacted by the liquid sample as it enters the test cartridge.
