Problems solved by technology

This can potentially result in a large waste of time and power since low-complexity UEs in enhanced coverage may need to accumulate a large number of repetitions to successfully decode the SI message
The lack of distinction also implies that all SI messages are sent with the same (i.e. maximum) repetition level, which can be spectrally inefficient and lead to increased overhead

Embodiment Construction

[0035] Using existing SI message scheduling with CE-SIB1 does not facilitate the distinction between low-complexity UEs in normal coverage and low-complexity UEs in enhanced coverage, which can result in a waste of time and power. For example, a low-complexity UE in enhanced coverage may try to acquire all SI messages listed in CE-SIB1, even SI messages containing non-essential SIBs. Therefore, low-complexity UEs in enhanced coverage may need to accumulate a large number of repetitions to successfully decode the SI message, which is an inefficient use of time and power. Furthermore, the lack of distinction also implies that all SI messages are sent with the same repetition level, which can be spectrally inefficient and result in increased overhead.

[0036] It is an aim of the present disclosure to eliminate at least these disadvantages and to provide scheduling information in CE-SIB1 indicating the level of coverage enhancement associated with each SI message. Based on the a...

Abstract

According to some embodiments, a method in a wireless device of a wireless communication network comprises receiving scheduling information for one or more System Information (SI) messages. The wireless device determines a coverage enhancement level associated with each of the one or more SI messages based on the received scheduling information. The wireless device also determines a coverage enhancement level of the wireless device. After identifying a subset of the one or more SI messages based on the determined coverage enhancement level of the wireless device, the wireless device acquires aSI message from the identified subset of the one or more SI messages.

Description

technical field [0001] Certain embodiments relate generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to selective distribution of system information for machine type communication (MTC) user equipment (UE). Background technique [0002] Machine Type Communication (MTC) is a form of data communication that involves one or more entities that do not necessarily require human interaction. MTC is an important and growing revenue stream for wireless network operators. MTC devices such as monitors, sensors, control devices, etc. may also be referred to as MTC User Equipment (UE). Operators benefit from using already deployed radio access technologies to serve MTC devices. For example, Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a competitive radio access technology that effectively supports MTC. [0003] The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) LTE specification defines battery life, device cost / complexity and coverage optimization for MTC. MTC devices are sometimes located in ...
