Embodiment Construction

[0098] Figure 1 to Figure 6 A first embodiment of the non-pneumatic tire 100 of the present invention is shown in . The non-pneumatic tire of the present invention includes a radially outer ground engaging tread 200 , a shear strip 300 , one or more spoke disks 400 , 500 and a rim 700 . The spoke discs 400, 500 may have different designs, as described in more detail below. The non-pneumatic tire of the present invention is designed as a top loading construction such that the shear strip 300 and the one or more spoke disks 400, 500 effectively carry the load. The shear band 300 and the spoke discs are designed such that the stiffness of the shear band is directly related to the spring rate of the tire. The spokes of each disc are designed as a rigid structure that deforms in the tire footprint. This allows the rest of the spokes not in the footprint area to have the ability to carry loads. Since there are more spokes outside the footprint than in the footprint, the load pe...

Abstract

A structurally supported tire includes a ground contacting annular tread portion, an annular shear band and at least one spoke disk connected to the shear band, wherein the spoke disk has at least onespoke, wherein the spoke extends between an outer ring and an inner ring in a first parabolic curve. The spoke disk may further includes a second spoke having a second parabolic curve different fromthe first curve, and overlapping with the first spoke.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates generally to vehicle tires and non-pneumatic tires, and more particularly to non-pneumatic tires. Background technique [0002] Pneumatic tires have been the vehicle of choice for mobility for more than a century. Pneumatic tires are tensile structures. Pneumatic tires have at least four characteristics that make pneumatic tires so dominant today. Pneumatic tires are efficient at carrying loads because the tire structure is all involved in carrying the load. Pneumatic tires are also desirable because they have low contact pressure and thus less wear on the road surface due to the distribution of the vehicle load. Pneumatic tires also have low stiffness, ensuring a comfortable ride in vehicles. The main disadvantage of pneumatic tires is that they require compressed fluid. Conventional pneumatic tires are deactivated following a complete loss of inflation pressure. [0003] Tires designed to operate without inflation pressur...
