Embodiment Construction

[0022] The method or device of this example implements the technique of embedding a QR matrix code or a set of QR matrix codes into a graphic representation or multiple graphic representations by utilizing the temporal and spatial masking effects of the human visual system. These graphical representations can consist of color, grayscale or binary matrices or sequences of matrices. The embedding process is based on an iterative process alternating between two stages. The first step is to select the pixels in the original graphical representation or representations whose brightness will be modified, and the second step is to optimize the brightness value of the selected pixels in a smaller subset of the original graphical representation.

[0023] The method or apparatus disclosed in this example receives as input multiple graphical representations (i.e. video) or a single graphical representation (i.e. image or logo), a QR matrix code or information encoded into a matrix code or...

Abstract

Disclosed are a method and apparatus for embedding a graphic representation into a two dimensional matrix code by modifying the luminance of individual pixels in the image according the values of a provided QR code image. The modified luminance values are determined by means of an optimization procedure which minimizes a visual distortion metric with respect to the original graphic representationwhile maintaining the value of a model for the probability of decoding and detection error below a specified limit.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is related to and claims U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 155,730, filed May 1, 2015, entitled "System and Method for Embedding Two-Dimensional Codes in Video Images," and Application No. 62 / 165,619, Priority to U.S. provisional application entitled "Method for Generating a Set of QR Codes Having Visual Image Information," filed May 22, 2015, the entirety of which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] QR codes are used in various contexts to provide information to users with devices capable of decoding QR codes. QR codes can include various types of information, such as information identifying the identity of an object such as furniture and / or its ownership, delivery address information for a product in transit, or a Uniform Resource Locator for accessing information over a computer network ( URL). [0004] Generally speaking, QR codes are placed on objects (such as display devices, signs, p...
