Abstract

The invention discloses a system and method for polar coordinate coding modulation, and relates to an optical communication system with direct modulation and direct detection. At a transmitting end, QAM signals are obtained from an original data stream, a QAM signal having a length of several points is used to form a data symbol, the amplitude and phase of the QAM signal in each frame signal are calculated, re-coding is performed respectively according to the probability distributions of amplitude and phase values, then the coded values of the amplitude and phase information are combined intonew data symbols to form a data frame for transmission, and then an optical signal is sent out; and at a receiving end, the received optical signal is subjected to photoelectric conversion, data frameextraction and channel compensation, then the amplitude and phase information is recovered according to a decision threshold obtained by the probability coding, and the original data stream is recovered through the recovered original QAM signal. On the basis of maintaining the complexity of the original system and the complexity of the algorithm, the system and method of the invention realize a modulation and coding scheme with high spectrum efficiency under the optical communication system architecture with direct modulation and direct detection through polar coordinate coding technology andprobability coding technology.
