The present disclosure relates generally to coding modulation techniques for use in digital communication systems such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to methods and apparatus for multi-level encoding and decoding. Different receivers coupled to different parallel downlink channels having different channel qualities decode different received signal constellations at different levels of resolution. This allows the overall OFDMA downlink to operate at significantly higher data rates, thereby significantly improving system-level bandwidth efficiency.
