Embodiment Construction

[0036] now refer to figure 1 , shows an example of a pressure vessel or tank assembly 20 configured to store high pressure fluid. Exemplary fluids that may be stored within pressure vessel 20 include, but are not limited to, compressed natural gas (CNG), hydrogen, propane, methane, air, and hydraulic fluid, for example. The pressure vessel assembly 20 may generally include two wing vessels 22, 24 and at least one inner vessel 26 (e.g., five identical inner vessels are shown) joined to the wing vessels 22, 24 and positioned between them between. Each vessel 22, 24, 26 may be generally elongated, and the overall configuration of the pressure vessel assembly 20 is generally rectangular in shape, although other shapes are contemplated herein, as will be understood from the description.

[0037] refer to figure 2 , each container 22 , 24 , 26 may include a respective liner 28 , 30 , 32 . Each liner 28, 30, 32 may define a boundary of a respective chamber 34, 36, 38 for fluid s...

Abstract

A pressure vessel assembly includes a vessel including a wall defining a chamber and a circumferentially continuous lip projecting from the wall into the chamber. The lip defines a throughbore in fluid communication with the chamber. The nozzle assembly includes a pipe and a flange projecting radially outward from the pipe. The duct includes a first portion protruding from the flange and passing through the through hole and an opposing second portion protruding outward from the flange. The flange is in contact with the wall, and the first portion includes an outer surface having a profile configured to create sealing friction between the lip and the outer surface.

Description

technical field [0001] Statement Regarding Federal Funding for Research or Development [0002] This invention was made with government support under DE-AR0000254 Agreement for ARPA-E Low Cost Hybrid Materials and Fabrication of Conformable CNG Tanks. The government has certain rights in this invention. Background technique [0003] The present disclosure relates to pressure vessel assemblies, and more particularly, to pressure vessel assemblies having integrated nozzle assemblies. [0004] Pressure vessels can be used as storage media (eg, gases) for a variety of consumer, commercial, and industrial processes. In order to store enough gas for any operation in a given volume, the gas is stored at high pressure. Traditionally, pressure vessels have typically spherical or cylindrical designs that distribute stress evenly within the containment perimeter. Unfortunately, such jars do not use the allocated space efficiently. For example, a spherical container fills a cubic v...
