Abstract

A battery assembly includes a plurality of battery cells, each battery cell including a cell tab and a bus bar connected to the cell tabs of adjacent battery cells. The bus bar includes a pair of 180 degree bend regions and a cutout region, each 180 degree bend region defining a channel for receiving a corresponding cell tab, and the cutout region defining an opening having opposing edge portions and allowing direct access to the cutout region inside the unit tab. A weld wire connects the cell tab to at least one of the opposing edge portions within the cutout area.
