Embodiment Construction

[0068] Embodiments will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which exemplary embodiments are shown. However, the claimed invention may be embodied in different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein.

[0069] A block diagram of a typical (prior art) hearing aid 10 is shown in figure 1 shown. The hearing aid 10 comprises a first transducer, ie a microphone 11, for receiving an input sound and converting it into an audio signal, ie a first audio signal. The first audio signal is provided to a signal processor 12 for processing the first audio signal into a second audio signal compensating for a hearing loss of a hearing aid user. A receiver 13 is connected to the output of the signal processor 12 for converting the second audio signal into an output sound signal, eg a signal modified to compensate for the user's hearing impairment, and providing the output sound to a transducer 14 . Abstract

A hearing instrument comprises a microphone for reception of sound and conversion of the received sound into a corresponding first audio signal, a signal processor for processing the first audio signal into a second audio signal compensating a hearing loss of a user of the hearing instrument, a speaker connected to an output of the signal processor for converting the second audio signal into an output sound signal and a wireless communication unit connected to the signal processor for wireless communication interconnected with an antenna system for emission and reception of an electromagneticfield. The antenna system comprises a plurality of antenna elements and a switching device. The switching device is configured to connect a first antenna element of the plurality of antenna elements to the wireless communication unit, and at least a second antenna element of the plurality of antenna elements to a ground potential of the hearing instrument in response to switch control information.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a hearing device for compensating for a user's hearing loss, in particular to a hearing device with wireless communication capabilities, and thus to a hearing device comprising an antenna for communication. Background technique [0002] Hearing devices have increasingly been able to communicate with their surroundings in recent years, including with remote controls, spouse microphones, other hearing devices, and more recently, directly with smartphones and other external electronic devices. [0003] Hearing devices are very small and delicate devices, and in order to meet the above requirements, hearing devices need to contain many electronic and metal components housed in a housing small enough to fit behind a person's ear canal or outer ear. The combination of many electronic and metallic components with the small size of the hearing device housing places high design constraints on radio frequency antennas for hearing...
