The present disclosure provides a method, an apparatus and a computer readable storage medium for estimating an idle volume of a vehicle compartment, and relates to the technical field of logistics warehousing. The method for estimating the idle volume of the car comprises the following steps: identifying the image of the car taken by the camera to obtain the car type, and obtaining a three-dimensional model of the car according to the car type; using images and three-dimensional models, the idle depth information of carriages being obtained. The idle volume is estimated by using the idle depth information and the three-dimensional model. The present disclosure enables automated estimation of an idle volume within a vehicle compartment and improves efficiency in estimating the idle volumeof the vehicle compartment.
